I saw a show today about the Yeti on the History Channel. It was mostly the same old same old, the usual talking-heads arguing pro and con. I thought I'd seen it before but they showed some footage I hadn't seen before.
It was supposedly taken by a Belgian couple on vacation in Nepal. There's a lot of footage of the people camping and walking around, though none of the film shows their faces. Then there's footage of a man-like animal, covered in fur, walking away from the couple in the snow. Apparently they startled the animal. One of the talking heads pointed out that there's no information on the film, such as when it was taken, where, by whom and so on, and so it can't be taken seriously as evidence. Another talking head (from the "pro" camp, said the mysterious Belgian couple didn't want their name used because they fear being ridiculed.
So what do you guys think? At the very least, it's an interesting fake. Has anyone else seen this show?

Sun, August 22, 2004 - 8:39 PMNepal hasn't been exactly the most tranquil vacation spot in the past few years, so it would be surprising if the footage were recent. I don't believe in mysterious Belgian couples.

Sat, March 19, 2005 - 9:14 AMAll i'm going to say is why the heaven not? To think we could be the only intelligent life on this planet is ludicrous and prepostrous. It is even more ricoculous to think we would have discovered all the species on this planet thus far of inhabiting it. We have only been here a couple years in the heart and eyes of our universe. We came after evryone else, so why do we always think we are so superior? I say why not to the yeti theory. -

Re: Yeti
Sat, March 19, 2005 - 2:23 PMI did a term paper in college on Bigfoot.
There are stories dating back hundreds & hundreds of years, all over the world, about these creatures. I research South American lore, East Asian, Australian, American Indian, & Eurpoean. Every continent has its wealth of Bigfoot myths & legends.
There's a tale of a war between early aboriginies & a Yowie-type creature, over land. The aboriginies prevailed for their advanced knowledge of tools & weaponry, & a large percentage of the Yowie were wiped out, leaving only a few to carry on over the centuries.
& in Asia, the story of the Almas (which, is not so much a Bigfoot creature, but rather a small ape-like man, resembling more of a caveman, but with ape like features) was actually given a place in a Mongolian wildlife document, as being a real & perfectly acceptable part of the regions wildlife. Then in come the white... & the rest of history.
So as it might seem perfectly obvious to dispute the existence of Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Yowie/Yeti/Wendigo/Abominable Snowman, because we've explored most of the terrain of this Earth, it's premature to dismiss it as folly, as new species of ape & other mammals are still being discovered all over the world. In places we've already allegedly explored.
I believe in Bigfoot. Not because I've seen it. Not because someone I know & trust has seen it. But because I believe it's possible. I believe the old lore. I believe the people of ages ago, who accepted these things. Just my opinion.
